In-Ceiling speaker system question?

Im hooking up an in-ceiling speaker system for my new house. I ordered 6 speakers, 5 in wall volume adjustment knobs, and a Pyle PSS6 6-Pair High Power Stereo Speaker Selector. I thought I ordered everything I need, because the website said it was an “entire house kit” that had everything I need. But the more I look around, don’t i need a stereo amplifier to power the speakers??? I dont think the speaker selector is an amp also. My question is, can I use an old CD player to hook into the speaker selector and use the wattage from my cd player? Or can I use my home theater surround sound dvd player, which is rated 1000 watts to power the speakers? Or do I need to just buy a stereo amplifier??? Thanks for your time. PS Im looking for something cheap, around 100 bucks if possible. Thanks.

You need a amplifier to run those speakers. It is possible to hook the speakers up to a basic stereo amp, like the Pyle PCA1 (link below), or a more sophisicated stereo receiver/amplifier, like a Yamaha RX-397 (link below). Most people, though, hook up speakers to a home theater receiver for use with surround sound from movies, music from CDs, or your iPod. An example is the Yamaha HTR-6230 (link provided below as well)

If you do pick the home theater route, avoid a cheap home theater system that comes with it’s own speakers. You don’t need the speakers, and hooking one up to your in-ceiling speakers maybe very difficult.
